I have what is supposed to be a top of the line mouse. I paid over $100 for the unit. Its A MOUSE. I'm almost embarassed to admit what I paid.

Usually its fine but recently the mouse has been acting up.

So I ask the folks that support this thing for some help and I get this response:

"Please try the mouse on another machine, if it works fine, try formating your PC."

Unbelievable. I don't have another machine to experiment with. What kind of user is going to reformat their PC in order to make a MOUSE work?!

Remember, I paid $100 for a MOUSE and these guys are suggesting I reformat my PC to get it to work. Sigh.

Just so you know what to avoid, I'm using a Razer Copperhead mouse and this appears to be the level of suport we receive.

My brother talked me into playing GRAW. The game requires some nice hardware to play nicely, specifically a good GPU. My old one (nVidia 6600GT 128M) was lacking in memory so I wanted to upgrade. My current system only supports AGP and all the nice new cards are PCIe. This, of course, means upgrading my mobo, memory, etc. I ended up having to buy a whole new system just to upgrade my video card. Sigh.

I kind of went hog-wild hoping this new one lasts more than two years. Here's what I've got now:

Athlon X2 3800 64-bit dualcore CPU running on an ASUS A8N32 SLI Deluxe mobo
2G of DDR PC3200 RAM
Asus Geforce EN7900GTX 512MB DDR3 PCIe video card (and down the line I'll add a second)
Creative Labs Audigy2 soundcard
520W power supply
C: 36G Western Digital Raptor SATA HD (10,000RPM!)
D: 250G WD HD (7,200 RPM)
E: LG 16x DVD-RW (dual layer) (GSA-H10N)
No floppy drive!

Interestingly, I'm still running Windows XP Pro 32-bit as it apparently runs faster 'cause the drivers for the 64-bit version simply aren't up to speed yet.

I LOVE Google. I'm pretty sure I've mentioned that before. One of the first services they offered (other than search) that blew me away was Google Maps. I can't count the number of times that I've wished I had Google Maps with me as I'm trying to navigate Victoria with my girlfriend, or can't remember where a place is here in town.

WELL. My buddy Tim pointed me to Google Maps for Mobile! I can now use the service on my Blackberry and you can too, on your cell phone. Unbelievable.

Spinnakers

I had some extra time and $$ this weekend so I decided to upgrade my PC a little.

So, clearly I'm kidding. But Anne-Marie and I went to Spinnakers in Victoria for a little overnight get-away. It was the best overnighter we've ever had.

They greeted us with big smiles and a free upgrade (to a garden suite), we had some fantastic beer and appies, took a nice walk around the harbor, had an unbelievable dinner at their restaurant and ended up sleeping soundly in a giant bed with big fluffy pillows. Slept in, enjoyed a "breakfast basket" in bed, had a jacuzzi with too many bubbles and left the place feeling like we'd been at a spa all weekend.
I can't recommend Spinnakers enough.

A couple years ago I reminded a coworker (in fact a really good friend that I am about to rib) that something he was responsible for needed to be done. He asked me to remind him again that night. This was somewhere around the millionth time he asked me to remind him about something, despite the Outlook calendar on his computer, the notebook in his hand, the head on his shoulders and the cell phone on his hip.

Being the spiteful jerk I can be I took the 10 minutes it required to build a small program to send him 1,500 emails to his home address "reminding him".

That was before I learned about this new service called Beeplet:

The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility.
As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5-year phase-in plan that would become known as “Euro-English”.

In the first year, “S” will replace the soft “c”. Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy.

The hard “c” will be dropped in favour of “k”. This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter.

There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome “ph” will be replaced with “f” This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter.

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling.

Bizarre Court Ruling

Ruling from the Province Newspaper - Vancouver, Canada (AP)

A seven year old boy was at the center of a Vancouver courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court ruling over who should have custody of him.

The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents and the judge initially awarded custody to his aunt, in keeping with the child custody law and regulations requiring that family unity be maintained to the degree possible.

The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt beat him more than his parents and he adamantly refused to live with her. When the judge suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy cried out that they also beat him.

After considering the remainder of the immediate family and learning that domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the judge took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who should have custody of him.

After two recesses to check legal references and confer with child welfare officials, the judge granted temporary custody to the Vancouver Canucks, whom the boy firmly believes are not capable of beating anyone.

I had no idea this existed, but it turns out Ricky Gervais has a music video from 1984. In this interview he clearly wasn't expecting the video to be shown and its unusual to see HIM squirm so much.

The other day someone asked why I didn't have any pictures of Anne-Marie on line. I was like: "hmm, I don't know". So I posted one today and, I swear, within 60 seconds the picture received a one word comment: "Beautiful".

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Its the best candid photo of Anne that I've taken and I liked it enough to put on my corkboard at work.
There's a whole lot that could be better about the photo, but I absolutely love the peaceful look on her face.

I had a quick conversation with a friend (check out his blog) about why we blog anything. For me its usually a mechanism to remember where I've been and where I find interesting "stuff" on the web. There's another optimistic side of me that hopes one day I'll have enough traffic that I can actually generate some revenue from this site. Doubtful, but its good to have a dream.

ANYHOW, I just started reading about FeedBurner and have signed myself up. It'll be interesting to see what kind of statistics their site will generate for me.

In the beginning it was a hilarious photo of a girl at a dance really letting loose.
Case in point:

And, as often happens on the Internet, some Photoshoppers got their hands on the picture and it became a phenomenom - now known as MOSHZILLA!!!!!

You can use Google Maps to find a place, with satellite imagery, then create a URL link that you can paste in to an email and send to someone. For example, click here to view "the boneyard".

Well, I use Google Earth a lot and have always wondered what it takes to create a Google Maps URL out of what I'm seeing on Google Earth's screen.

Looks like there's a workaround for our Blackberry's if RIM loses the case. I'm almost dissapointed 'cause I was starting to think a lot about camera phones, much less a cell phone that's COMFORTABLE to talk on, unlike the blackberry.

colors filter out a significant amount of overall light, but they also sharpen

The amber lenses also turn the wearer's eye's an unsettling shade of red. But when Nike
